Staff blog Naomi

First, let me tell you a little bit about myself. As you probably know by now, my name is Naomi. I’m a fourth year student at the UT, currently in the final year of my bachelor Industrial Design. Last year I did a board year at student association A.S.V. Taste and since September I have been working as a graphic designer at the Student Union.

To be honest with you, when I was asked to write this blog, I was a little taken aback. Because what would I write about? And what would people want to read? I have thought about this for way too long and in the end I decided to just write as I go and tell you why I made the decision to write this blog post, even if I was a bit hesitant about it.

Before I started studying in Enschede I think I was kind of a different person. Most of the times I chose the things that I was familiar with and I never really faced a challenge. That changed during my first Kick-In, when I decided to join an association, never thinking that I would actually become very active. Because everyone around me was in so many committees and was so excited about all the things, it started to boil inside me as well. Fast forward a year and I was in four committees and joining a dispuut, fast forward another year and I was on the candidate board of A.S.V. Taste. These past years are without a doubt the best ones of my life. I learned so much about myself and so many new skills, I met the most amazing people and I have had the most incredible experiences.

So what does this actually have to do with me writing this post now? Becoming active has thought me how to say yes and doubt myself less. If I look back now, I am so glad that I said yes to those things, even if they scared me sometimes. Basically what I’m trying to say is that being active really gives you the opportunity to develop yourself, even if stepping outside your comfort zone is terrifying at times, in the end it is totally worth it!

At last I want to wish everyone happy holidays and a great new year!
