today - Learn the basics of how to make and use cool maps to solve global challenges with ITC students
On behalf of the Faculty ITC, Geoinformation Science and Earth Observation we would like to invite you to the Introduction to GIScience workshop on October 27th, 2022 at Inform - DesignLab, University of Twente from 17:45h– 19:30h.
The people from ITC engage in the realisation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in food security and agriculture, the energy transition, geohealth, climate change adaptation, urban development and smart cities, disaster risk reduction, and land administration. The use of multiple layers of data help working with global challenges through a magnifying lens yielding undiscovered challenges necessitating focused local actions.
This workshop is an introductory session about the use of spatial science for round-the-world development and resilience, with a focus on technologically advanced, multidisciplinary geospatial solutions. Through this workshop, we would like to give you a preliminary insight on education, research, and technology development in earth observation and geo-information at ITC with some hands-on experience.
GET READY TO
- Learn the basic concepts and main components of a Geographical Information Science (GIS), and how it can be used to solve a real-world problem
- Get hands-on experience, you will be provided with a demo on how to work with spatial data such as: Creating accessibility maps using ArcGIS Online and working with flood maps for risk resilience
- At the end of this workshop, you should be able to understand how to process geographical information from real data. In addition to this, participants are expected to learn how maps are produced and interpreted correctly. Finally, participants will have a grasp of relevant applications of GIS in various disciplines.
REGISTRATION
The workshop is free of cost. Only requires registration through this link
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
No previous knowledge is required. Students with a minimum of secondary vocational education (MBO).
