As part of International Women’s Day 2022 on Tuesday 8 March, Vrijhof Culture wants to celebrate all amazing, brilliant and beautiful women of the University of Twente by organizing a get-together in the Vrijhof. From 16:30 until 18:00 we will close the Blank Canvas Exhibition together by drawing on the blank canvasses, creating one work of art together, because the only way to break the bias is to start with a blank canvas. During the activity there is a possibility to exchange stories, experience and wisdom while enjoying some drinks in the large exhibition room.
Furthermore we will be bringing back "Woman in Mathematics". Thirteen female mathematicians were portrayed for this exhibition. Thirteen women that share with us their experience, thus serving as role models to stimulate young women scientists to trust their own strength. In presenting mathematics through women mathematicians’ perspectives and samples of their life stories, the hope lives to highlight the human aspects of producing mathematics, making this discipline more tangible and therefore more accessible to outsiders or newcomers.

Last, in 12 small display cases, 12 "forgotten" female inventors from history are shown downstairs in the University Library.
The exhibition was set up together with UT student Vyvyan, who is passionate about people's talents and wants to inspire and motivate them to get the best out of themselves. For International Women's Day, we want to share knowledge about some very interesting inventions made by women. "Inventors are men" is often the image, but many of the inventions used every day have come from women. Simple things like the coffee filter from Melitta, for example, or more specifically: the bulletproof vest and the syringe.
