Unveiling the Blue Tree at our campus

OnĀ Wednesday 11 June, Machteld Roos will unveil the blue tree on our UT campus as part of the Blue Tree Project.

By now, 1,400 trees have been painted blue across the world to draw attention in a striking way to mental health and the importance of creating a safe environment where people feel free to talk about their wellbeing. With the unveiling of the Blue Tree, the University of Twente aims to visibly highlight the importance of looking out for one another and asking how someone is really doing. We warmly invite you to join us in starting this conversation.

Date: 11 June 2025
Time: 10.30 a.m.
Location: Carillon field, behind building De Spiegel

Sustainability
Good to know that UT's blue tree is not painted blue. In the spirit of sustainability, it was chosen to wrap the tree with blue shrink wrap. A beech tree was chosen that is in the process of dying off and which can still recover through the foil. This was also a deliberate choice, given the sharply declining number of healthy beeches on campus. The tree will be monitored periodically with the flora and fauna partners and the BVC inspection on trees.
