Your First Friend in Enschede Starts Here!
Moving to a new country is exciting, but it can also feel a bit overwhelming. The ESN Twente Buddy Programme, in collaboration with the Student Union, is here to make your arrival in the Netherlands smooth, social, and unforgettable!
We match new incoming students with experienced students—your Buddy—who will help you settle into life at the University of Twente (UT) and explore Enschede together.

Would you like someone to introduce you to Enschede and university life? Your Buddy will help you get to know the city, join events, and answer your questions as you settle in.
Your Buddy can:
- Show you around the city and the UT campus;
- Help you get a bike and find essential places like supermarkets;
- Join ESN events and other fun activities with you;
- Be someone you can reach out to with any questions during your first weeks.

🚆 Getting to Enschede?
The Pick-Up Service is separate from the Buddy Programme and helps you from the moment you arrive in the Netherlands. Volunteers from ESN Twente and the Student Union will meet you at Enschede Station, help you with transport to your accommodation, and give you a warm welcome.
🤝 I’m a UT Student – I Want to Be a Buddy
Want to meet international students, build cross-cultural friendships, and make their start in Enschede smoother? Become a Buddy and make a difference!
As a Buddy, you will:
- Be matched with a small group of international students;
- Support them during their first 4 weeks in Enschede;
- Join ESN Twente and Student Union events with them;
- Help them adjust to Dutch student life.
You do not need to know everything—before the programme begins, we will hold a short Buddy Training to prepare you. The Buddy Committee is there to support you throughout.
Ideas for Buddy activities:
- Join dinner nights or ESN events;
- Show them your sports practice or study association;
- Grab a coffee and explore the city together ☕.
