SORORITY EKRIXI WINS CREATE TOMORROW 2021 WITH A SOLUTION FOR KOOPMANS BOUW

ENSCHEDE, 28 MAY Enschede - X is the winner of the student think tank Create Tomorrow 2021 and won the top prize of €3000 tonight. 11 finalists competed for the title in an exciting final. According to the jury, the winning team made the difference with an innovative housing solution.

The international student think tank of Create Tomorrow took place this year for the 10th time. That's why a special edition of two days was organized. There were theme sessions and panel discussions related to the submitted cases on the first day and a think tank on the second day. Participants and interested parties could follow the program via a live stream. More than fifty student teams from the region and Germany, Suriname, and other countries worked on one of the challenges. The livestream was broadcast from the Enschede Wilminktheater. Science journalist Diederik Jekel provided the role of host. There was also a keynote by Mark Tuitert, entertainment by Niels Houtepen, and a corona proof after-party with a silent disco.

THE WINNING TEAM AND THEIR SOLUTION

The winning team worked on the case Koopmans Bouw case. According to the jury, this creative solution was the best solution both in terms of challenges and willingness to accelerate the adoption of new concepts. One of the teammates of the winning team: “Our solution is that large companies can use houses as fringe benefits. This way they can live in a hub together with like-minded people.”

The winner was chosen by the case partners together with an independent jury. The jury consisted of Jaap Beernink (Novel-T), Tanja Lendzion (CEO Antea Group), and Victor-Jan Leurs (Founder Caase.com). When assessing the finalists, the jury looked at the feasibility, inventiveness, and social impact of the solution. Jaap Beernink: “It solves a very painful problem, in which they took concerned stakeholders into account and could offer them all clear benefits.” 

PARTICIPATING ORGANIZATIONS INSERTED A VARIOUS PALLET OF CHALLENGES

In addition to the Koopmans Bouw challenge, there were various cases from different partners. Gasunie, Municipality of Enschede, Province of Overijssel, Zehnder, University of Twente with SONS, Wageningen University with Kumasi, Medtronic, and Inalfa have challenged the students in the past 24 hours. Together they provided a diverse pallet of challenges.

ABOUT CREATE TOMORROW

Create Tomorrow has been known for years as the largest student think tank in Europe. This year, theme sessions with panel discussions took place on the first day. The focus was on smart cities, connected healthcare, future industry, and energy transition. Various experts, entrepreneurs, and researchers entered into discussions and answered real-time questions from the viewers. From Thursday evening to Friday evening, students worked in teams on their challenges. They were guided by coaches and representatives of the participating companies and organizations.

Create Tomorrow is annually made possible in part by the University of Twente, Saxion University of Applied Sciences, the Province of Overijssel, and the Municipality of Enschede. The organization is in the hands of a student committee in close collaboration with Novel-T. After the event, a boot camp will be organized for the winning teams and companies to take the best solutions further in a targeted manner.
