A new Kick-In: both online and offline

This years Kick-In will take place from Wednesday the 19th of August until Wednesday the 26th of August, and in a great new setup. The Kick-In Committee from the Student Union has worked really hard to put together a corona-proof Kick-In program. Sabine de Winter, chairman of the Kick-In, emphasizes: "The Kick-In is the start of your student life and is therefore really important. High school students start a new life here, they do not know our Campus, the city of Enschede and most importantly they do not know their fellow students. The Kick-In is the perfect opportunity to get to know student life in Enschede and make new study friends."

ONLINE AND OFFLINE

Because of the corona measures, a completely new way of organizing the Kick-In had to be thought out. This resulted in the choice for both online and offline activities. Sabine says: "During the Kick-In, the participants can choose a do-group that fits their interests and preference. With this group they will follow the whole programme. The group leaders are senior students who can tell the participants everything about student life and answer all their questions." The major part of the program consists of online activities, such as Kick-In TV broadcasts, a game show, a streaming performance by a DJ from Aspen Valley and a beer tasting. There are however also physical activities possible: Campus tours, sports and cultural workshops will be organized and a barbecue, eating pizza and a foodtruck drive-through are planned.

A WORK IN PROGRESS

The Kick-In Committee is still working on the last final activities. Sabine tells: "All of the activities are made to get to know fellow students, the campus, the city centre, the multicultural environment and all the associations of the University of Twente." The Twente Safety Region must still give the green light to some physical components. All of the activities on campus are set up coronaproof. Time blocks are used, participants have to register, groups are assigned their own activity on one of the fields. "The campus is large enough to keep the 1.5 meter rule." says the chairman.

We as the Student Union are very proud of our Kick-In Committee, they managed to set up an entirely new program within just a few months. Lisanne Venix emphasizes: "The Kick-In Committee has shown their flexibility in these unusual times. They managed to come up with a beautiful, complete program for the upcoming students." This Kick-In will be a new experience, and be just as unforgettable as in all the previous years!
