We proudly announce that the Special Olympics National Games 2022 is coming to the University of Twente. The BID campaign "Hier Op An" was one great success and therefore we can now say: "Come in!" or as we would say in het Twents "Komt d'r in!"

Largest multi-sport event in the Netherlands
The Special Olympics National Games is the largest multi-sport event of the Netherlands and makes part of a worldwide movement in 170 Nations. Together we are committed to the life of people with intellectual disabilities by organizing sporting events. From 10 to 12 June 2022, 3000 athletes and coaches will come from all over the Netherlands to Twente. Becoming three days long competitions organized in no fewer than 20 branches of sport.
The UT will become an olympic village
For all of these atletes, our campus will be transformed into a real Olympic village! A special Olympic UT Team was formed; consisting of employees, students and volunteers. In this big event all UT associations can help. You can for example organize part of this amazing event. Interested? Next month Robert Zandstra, also known for organizing the Military in Boekelo, and our very own Irene van de Zande will give an information evening for the UT associations. Are you a student who would like to help out? You can sign up as a volunteer when the event is near, if you already have some ideas that come to mind you can always contact Irene van de Zande.
We give the athletes a stage to shine
Everyone participates, that is one of the ambitions of the region of Twente. Together with the Twente municipalities, sports clubs, organizations, institutions, ambassadors and the business community we roll up our sleeves to make it a great sporting event! The goal is to reach for the largest possible social impact. Even after the National Games we like to create an even larger sports stage for the G athletes. And that is possible in Twente. Through ‘noaberschap’, cooperation and looking after each other. Because everyone counts!
